Description of Jungle Stone:
Entering the gated circular drive, you'll pass between natural boulders and stunning native stonework and colorful gardens into this very private enclave comprised of the estate's villas, Jungle Stone and The Pebble Cottage. The antique English doors of the estate usher you past a specially-commissioned stained glass panel into the cool, impressive interior of the main villa, Jungle Stone. A very spacious Great Room, with teak flooring and an 18-foot cathedral ceiling artistically finished with exposed dark-stained wooden shakes and beams, offers a relaxed and comfortable area for reading and conversation; this gathering area expands into the dining area which seats up to 10, with a mahogany wet bar, icemaker, mini-fridge and wine fridge. Just off the dining area is the open-plan gourmet kitchen. This fantastic kitchen is any chef's dream: a dazzling and lavish selection of the best appliances, large and small, chef's tools, and lots of high-end cookware, dinnerware, table linens and pantry cupboards, all at your fingertips. Expanses of granite countertops, a center island and a backsplash are streaked with veins of sparkling quartzite, and provide ample work space for several cooks. One of two office areas, with high-speed internet access and Wi-Fi for your laptop, is in a sunny corner of the kitchen. Just off the kitchen is a special grilling pavilion with cabinets and counter, a sink and a built-in stainless steel 53-inch Viking gas grill with rotisserie. There's a lovely pergola-topped epi wood kitchen deck, perfect for enjoying morning coffee or late-night dessert, complete with herb garden and surrounding flowering shrubs and fruit trees. Oversized pocket-door panels lead from the Great Room out to a shady verandah covered by a copper roof edged with stylized copper gingerbread trim, and strewn with sink-into chairs for relaxing in the cool tradewinds - and the view! The view is a spectacular ocean panorama showcasing Cinnamon Beach below and a ribbon of green islets and cays beyond, set like sparkling emeralds in the blue sea. And it feels like yours alone at Jungle Stone - what a memorable backdrop to lazy days spent here unwinding with family and friends. On the verandah are the stainless steel and glass-tiled hot tub, a powder room and an outdoor pool shower, and just below, the heated swimming pool bordered by a coralstone deck. The pool area includes a handy wet bar, mini-fridge and icemaker, and leads to a spacious teak-planked sun deck furnished with chaise lounges overlooking Cinnamon Beach. On the east side of the verandah is an expansive covered loggia, the favored outdoor gathering spot, with a balcony leading to the pool sun deck. This large entertaining area is furnished with plush sectional wicker sofas and chairs seating 10, and a 10-foot custom exotic hardwood dining table with Michael Taylor bronze chairs, which seats up to 12. A powder room is just off the loggia. The loggia conveniently connects to Jungle Stone's Great Room. On the other side of the Great Room, sliding paneled doors open to a breezeway which links the courtyard gardens to the verandah. The breezeway has cushioned bench seating, tables, and a portable wicker-and-teak dry bar with bar chairs so that guests can comfortably watch friendly games played on the 13-foot mahogany shuffleboard table. The breezeway spills out to an alluring pergola-covered courtyard patio set with a table for four. From the breezeway, a paneled door accesses the Blue Lagoon Suite, an elegant air-conditioned king bedroom suite with both a secluded screened garden porch and a private oceanside balcony. There is a niche with a twin daybed for afternoon reading, which can also sleep a small child. Blue Lagoon's bath is graced with a double pedestal sink and a glass-tiled shower with casement windows opening into the screened porch. Jungle Stone's main office area is located just off this Suite, but you can work anywhere with Wi-Fi throughout the property. From this Suite's private balcony a curved stone staircase descends a few steps to the pool. Above, via a private exterior staircase from the breezeway, is the Treehouse Suite, an air-conditioned queen bedroom/bath suite, again with a twin daybed in an alcove. But reading here could prove difficult, as the azure ocean views mesmerize. Bamboo shades can be drawn to enclose the alcove for privacy, should the daybed be required for a lucky child. The Treehouse Suite is distinguished by teak floors, an exposed-beam cathedral ceiling, its own private balcony overlooking the pool and ocean, and by a delightfully tropical bath accented with rainforest-green marble. The separate semi-alfresco shower looks over gardens and tropical jungle through windows of bamboo poles. On the opposite side of Jungle Stone are the air-conditioned Orchid and Parrot Suites. An external staircase leads to the Orchid Suite, which is considered the master suite. With its soaring cathedral ceiling of exposed beams and shakes, large mahogany-shuttered windows and a tropical color palette of deep fuschia and chartreuse, the Orchid Suite offers a seductive and romantic retreat. With a massive rosewood four-poster king bed, a cleverly-concealed flat-screen TV and DVD player which rise from a trunk at the foot of the bed, and overstuffed McGuire chairs and ottomans, you may never want to float down from this bit of heaven. The Orchid Suite opens onto a covered balcony overlooking the majesty of St. John's leeward coast from Peter, Cinnamon and Francis Bays to the British Virgins and beyond. Orchid Suite's bath is an oversized wonder: a luxurious six-foot Japanese hinoki cedar wood soaking bathtub for two with a tall copper tub-fill and pebbled surround. There is a dressing area, an antique double vanity, a separate W.C., a semi-alfresco tiled shower with open bamboo pole windows, and a hospitality closet with mini-fridge and coffeemaker completes this Suite. Descending to the garden level, you'll enter the Parrot Suite, which has its own roofed patio with views of that mesmerizing vista of ocean and islands. The Parrot Suite boasts a maple faux-bamboo four-poster king bed, a high West Indian tray ceiling, and includes a Chinoserie desk in the Suite's foyer. This bathroom is graced with whimsical French Herbeau fixtures and leads to an alfresco coralstone shower with its own secret enclosed garden and yet another spectacular sea view. Also found on this fully air-conditioned garden level is the fitness room, a large laundry room and a bathroom for villa staff. Within a coral stone's throw of Jungle Stone is the completely air-conditioned Pebble Cottage, a one-bedroom home beautifully executed with green-tinted varnished wood floors and vividly-colorful furnishings. There is a charming retro kitchen done in black and white tiles, a restful bedroom with a vaulted exposed-beam ceiling, a four-poster king bed, and a covered deck with a private alfresco shower. The living area, with a desk complete with internet and Wi-Fi connections, flows onto a breezy screened-in porch looking out to the gardens and trees. Surrounded on three sides by the National Park, this one-plus acre compound is tucked into the verdant North Shore woodlands and complemented by extensive landscaping terraced with native stonework. Bananaquits and hummingbirds flit by in the daytime, and tree frogs serenade you to sleep with the murmur of balmy tradewinds ruffling the palm fronds. Designed by Michael Helm, whose other tropical homes have appeared in Architectural Digest, this newly-created estate was painstakingly crafted over several years' time to provide a charming, serene aura of Caribbean days gone by, and is filled with a myriad of luxurious amenities and state-of-the-art features. Special features at Jungle Stone include artistic woodwork incorporating various species of tropical woods, native stonework, teak or quartzite slate on interior and exterior floors, custom Venetian plaster finishes, and pristine expanses of cool white bead board which showcase colorful tropical fabrics. Noted Boston interior designer Paul Noel and the owners have furnished both villa and Cottage in a casually-sophisticated and posh Caribbean style incorporating many antique and period pieces, distinctive original sculpture and local art, custom copper trim, railings and light fixtures, fine linens, and a wonderful array of additional custom-made furnishings and accessories. Jungle Stone and The Pebble Cottage provide the utmost in relaxed luxury living, a peaceful and very private vacation oasis for the most discerning clientele...unique, unparalleled, and way above and beyond five stars! Absolutely incredible in every way.
