Description of Torre il Fico:
Set on a secluded hillside within well-kept, enclosed private grounds, yet just a stone?s throw from Florence and the Chianti region, Torre Il Fico affords stunning views over the Arno valley and the surrounding Tuscan countryside. The house has been lavishly but tastefully decorated in the neo-classical Biedermeier style and the owner has sympathetically incorporated the original polished stone floors and original beams into the luxurious surroundings. The many heirlooms and antiques create a comfortable yet grand family heritage atmosphere and are complemented by the delightful use of decorative trompe l?oeil in several rooms. The breath-taking views from the villa are best enjoyed from the terraces. There are two outdoor dining areas to the house, one of which has a built in pizza oven, and both may be shaded with wide awnings attached to the house. Backed by a wooded hillside, the pool terrace is completely secluded and is set in a paved area with small, neat lawns. A special feature of the pool terrace is the brick built bar and outdoor gas hob. The grounds extend over 20 hectares; about a quarter of which is landscaped in classic English garden style with the remainder offering woodland walks through olive groves and chestnut trees.
Upper floor: The master double bedroom suite is beautifully and lavishly draped, with a cloud painted sky on a pitched (sloping) ceiling and a wood panelled reading area. A well-lit dressing area with floor length mirrors and good lighting provides ample storage space. The full en suite bathroom is cool and spacious in white marble with polished bronze fittings, and features a twin basin and whirlpool bath. There are two further double bedrooms, one of which has been decorated in similar lavish style to the master room and the other more simply to show off the decorative wrought iron four poster bed. These bedrooms are served by a separate bathroom in pale pink marble with floral motifs expertly hand painted on the walls. The single bedroom has been treated with no less attention to detail than the other bedrooms - the centre piece being a Napoleonic lit-bateau - and this room has a daintily decorated en suite shower room with the luxury of hydro-massage.
Lower floor: Although the main living rooms of Il Fico are sumptuously furnished, the original beams and exposed stonework give a homely atmosphere and hint at the ancient history of the house which can be traced back to the twelfth century. An ante-room with seating and an elegant bureau (writing desk) lead on to the main sitting room where deep, comfortable sofas are arranged for conversation or quiet contemplation and many well-chosen antiques and oil paintings are beautifully displayed using concealed or gallery lighting. Antique painted doors reclaimed from an old palace conceal a built in cupboard housing the tv and VCR. Double doors from the living room lead out onto a wide terrace with outstanding views across the valley, furnished for outdoor dining. The dining room is formal yet light and airy, furnished in the Biedermeier style, with painted floral garlands adorning the walls. The kitchen is well equipped.
