Description of La Grillaia:
La Grillaia is tucked away in the corner of a rambling estate which is kept meticulously pristine by the owners and their full complement of staff who discretely ensure that the lawns remain well-watered, the gravel raked and the large private pool spotlessly clean. The attention to detail is supreme both inside and out and even the exterior walls are adorned with additional painted-on windows to maintain symmetry. Arbiters of taste will appreciate the cotto floors, stonewashed walls, attractive dark wooden furniture and carefully chosen fabrics which all combine to create truly appealing interiors.
The ground floor of the villa is taken up by only three rooms. The graceful arches and stonewashed vaulted ceiling create an intimate relaxation space in the extremely spacious lounge, with family portraits adorning the walls and comfortable sofas, armchairs and chaises longues to sink into. The large, separate dining room sits under a wooden beamed ceiling and the exceptionally well-equipped kitchen completes the floor. The usual hob, oven and fridge are complemented by a fridge-freezer with ice-maker, microwave, dishwasher, coffee maker, a juicer and even a food mixer. However, you may not find that you spend too much time in the kitchen as the price of the holiday includes a cook who will shop for food, prepare it and serve it to you at the table. If this is not enough to make you feel at home, there is also a cleaner on hand to provide as much or as little cleaning or tidying as you require.
In addition to the voluminous living spaces on the ground floor, there is a further living room on the floor above with a huge open fireplace and a comfortable leather sofa and armchairs. The two double and three twin bedrooms on this floor share the elegant d?cor of the communal rooms and enjoy views over the gardens and towards the separate annexe a short distance away. This self-contained apartment located on the first floor above a courtyard and with a twin bedroom, shower room and living room is ideal for a couple looking for a further degree of privacy.
This is plenty of space for relaxtion outside with a large gravelled terrace spanning the front of the farmhouse. A path through the trees surrounding the gardens leads to the private swimming pool and tennis court, whilst the less energetic pursuits can be followed inside the with the inclusion of satellite television, a video and a CD player. Should you need to stay in occasional touch with the office back home, there is an ISDN connection and a fax machine too (both payable locally).
Ponsacco is a sleepy village in the quiet and rural Pisan Hills which only a few curious visitors take the time to discover for it is the site of the 16th-century Villa di Camugliano, built by a Medici Grand Duke. Ponsacco's location a few kilometres from the Pisa-Florence superstrada means that both cities are within easy driving distance for a day's sightseeing.
