Gibbes House ? a History
Unlike other holiday villas in Barbados, Gibbes House was originally developed as the plantation house for a small sugar plantation extending down to the West Coast beaches of St Peter. From the mid 1600?s, Brazilian planters had grown wealthy satisfying the European taste for sweets, and in 1637 sugar cane was brought to Barbados shores from Brazil. The Brazilian connection came full circle to Gibbes House in the last century, before becoming one of the first luxury villas on the West Coast, when it was the accommodation of the Brazilian ambassador. The Reverend Bailey originally owned Gibbes House and estate and sank the natural well, which still irrigates the lush tropical gardens to this day! Gibbes Bay is on the Caribbean side of the island with crystal clear, incredibly calm waters making it perfect for swimmers of all ages..Gibbes Beach, literally a 30 second walk from the luxury villa is possibly the most picturesque and unpopulated beach on the west coast...
All the holiday properties on the beach are private luxury villas hence there are usually very few people on the beach.
The Bay is excellent for water sports. Guests can water ski with "Captain Ron", an excellent local instructor who has taught the Gibbes House owner's familiy for over 8 years - he comes very highly recommended.
A relaxing 3-minute walk along to the bay will bring you to Mullins Beach. Here the more adventurous can hire jet skis and there is a wonderful beach bar which sells cocktails.
