Description of GUANA ISLAND:

Guana is a lush 850 acre Garden of Eden located in the British Virgin Islands just minutes by private launch north of Tortola. The secluded private island is richly endowed with tropical flora and fauna and a haven for many endangered wildlife species. There is a special guide available for nature enthusiasts in this respect. The splendour of Guanas naturalness will take your breath away and the size of the island and the limit of at the most 30 guests at a time ensures the utmost privacy, whatever your daily activities entail. There are seven private beaches, some of which are only accessible by boat and offer the ideal setting for a very private and special picnic. Guests stay in large and airy stone cottages, each with a private terrace overlooking the sea and in a style that comes out of the history of the island, which was once a sugar cane plantation owned by American Quakers. There is a main hous e with a dining room, library and bar. Dining: At cocktail time, guests gather on the Sunset Terrace for drinks , after which guests may optain to dine privately or join others at friendly social dining tables on the terrace overlooking both the Atlantic and the Caribbean. Meals feature home-bake d bread, island-grown fruits and vegetables and of course the freshest of seafood.Activities & daytrips: Swimming in the sea or the islands private sea pool, diving, various water sports, sailing, fishing, tennis, golf, croquet or just curl up in a hammock with a good book and enjoy the fresh air and refreshing scenery. The hilly island is also c overed with paths beckoning exploration. Daytrips to the neighboring island are recommended. How to get there: Fly to Tortolas Beef Island Airport where you will be met by a Guana representative who will accompany you on a short taxi ride to the dock. The island is then only 10 minutes away by boat and incurs an additional fee, together with the taxi ride, of only US$25 per person. Special Features: Guana is truly a wildlife sanctuary and certainly the only island of its kind in the Caribbean with an official designation and an abundance of flora and fauna. The mountain trails on the island offer a perfect basis for exploration and discovery of such fauna as the Masked Booby, the Barefoot Screech Owl and the Crestfallen Traveler. Ideal tropical setting for a family or friends reunion, weddings, birthdays and corporate gatherings An intimate, private hide-away at the edge of Guana's vast North Beach is reached by a trail through lush foliageThe cottage, hidden in tropical woodland, sits almost at waters edge. It is the only cottage on the beach A trail to the house winds almost half a mile past a salt-water flamingo pond, Quaker ruins, and through coconut, papaya, and sea-grape trees. Living quarters are on the upper level of the cottage which is designed for views from every indoor area. Large windows and sliding doors in each room face the ocean or tropical foliage The interior features comfortable furniture in soft Caribbean colors. Outside, both open and covered decks overlook North Beach and the Bay.The bedroom has views of sunrises and the ocean as well as glass doors leading to a terrace with rattan furnishings Stairs from the covered dining area and cottage sun deck lead to the North Beach seashore.
