Description of La Loma at Cuixmala...........:
The jewel of the property, La Loma, looms like a Moorish castle (complete with a tiled dome) a few hundred feet above the gorgeous sweep of two-mile-long private beach. The house where Goldsmith spent half of each year until his death and entertained friends like Ronald and Nancy Reagan has four bedroom suites (one with an outdoor Jacuzzi overlooking the Pacific) and numerous entertaining spaces, including a grand drawing room, a circular library, indoor and outdoor dining pavilions as well as a screening room. (Additional guests can stay in the nearby six guest villas.) There?s an Aladdin extravagance to La Loma?s interiors with marvelous details like carved arched wooden doors, inlaid silver dining chairs and lots of pillow-strewn alcoves?and yet, despite the palace feeling, the glorious views and what lies outside the walls are truly the focus. A pathway leads from the main house to a swimming pool and grand pavilion on the beach, where dinners under a Moroccan tent are often set up for guests who have included Madonna and Mick Jagger. When Goldsmith was in residence, his staff included tutors and two men who patrolled the perimeter around the clock for scorpions. They are no longer on hand; however, the house is fully staffed (cook, two butlers, etc?) and seemingly any request can be met. In January, I attended a birthday party where an open-air dance floor had been set up on the beach. Dozens of flaming torches lit the way to a tented bar and entry pavilion. Like an outdoor nightclub, there were tables and chairs ringing the dance floor. A DJ spun electro funk and a purple and pink light show played over the swaying bodies and under the ceiling of stars. Reality and fantasy at once. Rates from $9,000 to $15,000 per night, depending on the season.

Tip: You can expect fabulous food from the house?s chef who will prepare all menus to your specifications. Most ingredients will be fresh from the sea, the ranch?s organic garden and the family?s own cattle farm. Mango, papaya, grapefruit, citrus orchards and many other exotic fruits are grown on the grounds of Cuixmala. In the gourmet dining restaurant, all the comestibles, whether dairy products, meats, fruits vegetables or fresh coffee, have been grown organically and processed in the ranch or in the highland farm, El Jabali.
Cuixmala is surrounded by The Cuixmala Ecological Foundation, which was established to protect the region?s rich biodiversity. Cuixmala provides visitors up-close encounters with coati mundis, wild boars, white tail deer to name a few. Zebras, elands and gazelles can be spotted roaming freely in the exotic animal park. Playa Cuixmala is also famous for being the nestling beach for thousand of turtles. In the last ten years more than 250,000 turtles were realesed by the area?s biologists.
